Cardinal Newman once stated that there are two beliefs, a belief from reason and a belief on faith. Newman stated that neither of these are separate, rather they are correlating. Within our modern day there are many who say that faith has nothing to do with anything. They even go to the point of saying that there is no God, or that God will understand their own whimsical wishes and let them do as they please. There is obviously a lack of faith, reason and virtue within this age and that deficiency did not just spring up. Faith has been deteriorating for many years and is now especially evident within this era. There is a lack in family life and the dignity of a human being has been twisted to mean whatever the speaker intends. The younger generation is now killing off their elders and strangely enough legally killing their own young. Modern society has fallen and is awaiting its status next to Rome’s Great Fall. One of the most distressing things is that our society believes that the true freedom of a woman and her rights is her “right” to legally kill her own child. Abortion is one of the most appalling falls that our world has had and shows a complete dearth in faith and all virtue.
In the days before this deterioration began, doctors were exemplary. They were the ones that saved lives. Now there are doctors who save lives and those that terminate them. Just one generation before me, no one ever dreamed that you would be able to walk into a facility that told you the clump of cells can be torn up and all your problems will go away. No one believed that judges would pass laws stating it is not mandatory to have an ultra sound before an abortion. Recently in Okalahoma“ A judge overturned a law that required women seeking an abortion to receive an ultra sound and a doctors description of the fetus.”. (“Oklahoma: Abortion Law Overturned” , 19th August 2009, Associated press, NY Times). Ignorance is most definitely not bliss. In our present era ignorance is what many run by. They do not reason, many don’t have faith and others show a complete disregard to all virtues. The debate on whether or not to use federal tax money to cover abortion within health benefits wages on. In 1973 the Row vs. Wade was the first breaking point allowing legal abortions for any condition. If this health benefit were to pass it “would result in the greatest expansion of abortion since Roe vs. Wade;” (Douglas D. Johnson, Legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee, NY Times). For the government, abortion is just another check box on a bill, another law to pass and of no consequential meaning to them. Surgical abortions are not the only type of termination that is being debated anymore. Most recently, “Italy approved the use of the abortion drug RU-486 late Thursday [30th or 23rd of July 2009] capping years of debate and defying opposition from the Vatican…”( Italy: Abortion drug Ru-486 receives approval, NY Times, July 31st 2009).
As in everything within life there are two sides to the story. Among the Pro abortion side they believe that such people that are Pro-life are keeping their group in the dark about all other issues concerning life. The arguments being put out by such a liberalistic world all have the same underlying notion, that is “It is her Choice or her right.”. Many among the pro abortion side believe that women are being oppressed and their time to speak up and stand out is on the one issue that goes completely against our dignity as a woman. Such people that are pro-abortion are praising Dr. Tiller as a hero saying he was right to do what he had died for. They believed that the abortion practice is a way of liberating women from the burden of unwanted pregnancies and from the oppression of men. How honestly wrong it is to have such a hate for God, oneself and all that has been created. Faith would allow them to see the compliment of a man and woman; it would allow them to see the actual love of a family and people around them instead of this mediocre love for only fornicated passion that is being thrust into their faces. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things that are not seen.” Heb. II:I. Our world only sees what may be laid before them in a material form. If it cannot be put down in front of them in a material form then it means nothing to them. If there is something which goes against their ‘consciences’ then it is no their conscience that is inadequately formed, rather it is the truth that must be wrong. That is the sad irony of our modern world.
One knows that there is a lack of faith within the world when a mother is content with killing her child within her womb. Faith in God and even the faith in those who hold our trust has been depleted. All our society, rather our entire world has succumb to the notion that the murder of an unborn child is quite fine. When one looks around one is able to see that abortion is thought as more of a choice and right than a life altering decision. A choice is when you think of having chocolate pudding or the carrot snack. Not when one chooses to either carry their child to full term or to have their child murdered and their bones numbered. It is obvious then that the person does not have faith.
“ Faith does not make things easy-it makes them possible!” (Anonymous, faiths Little Instruction Book II). Hardships come and hardships go, it is when one realizes it and decides to take up their cross or to flee into ruins. Faith lies within God; it has obedience for something that is greater than ones self and a courage that stands out among many. A world that lacks faith has nothing, they are to fall into habits of damnation and drag many down with them. As a result, a faithless world along with a complete lack of virtue in most, if not all people, will carry on despondently falling deeper into the realm of Lucifer.
